admission prices

Hi all

I would like any advice regarding admission prices to the various attractions we were in SL last year and are going again this year. I understand from a number of posts that the prices have shot up this year to something up to 20 times what the locals pay for the same attractions is it possible that your driver if he gets the tickets for you he would get the local Price?

We expect to pay a little more even double but 20 times that seems a bit steep.

Thanks

Richard

Hi Richard,

Unfortunately foreigners have to pay rip off prices in Sri Lanka (and other countries in Asia).

You will not be admitted on a local ticket bought by your driver.

It was 20 times at the Elephant Orphanage (LKR 2000 compared to LKR 100). The price for foreigners have now gone down to LKR 1250.

Hi there

Just got back from SL, so will let you know what we paid for entrance fees (which were expensive I thought on the whole!). Millennium Elephant Foundation - 600 rupees just for entrance, 2000 for 15 minute elephant ride (did bathing and elephant shower too) and it goes up from there for 30 mins, 45 mins and 1 hour by 1000 rupees each time (as I remember). Pinnawella was 1250 rupees for adults and you could bottle feed an elephant for 250 rupees. Dambulla Cave Temples were 1,100 rupees per adult, combined ticket for Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa was a whopping 5,600 rupees per adult!!! Botanical Gardens at Kandy were 600 rupees per adult, Traditional dancing show (Kandy) was 500 rupees, Temple of the Tooth in Kandy was 500 ruppes with an extra 150 rupees for a camera and 300 rupees for a video camera. Horton Plains National Park entry permit was 4,900 rupees (for 3 people), Uda Walawe National Park was 4,500 rupees for the jeep to take you around and 5,100 rupees to get the permit.

Did notice the locals paid a heck of a lot less than the foreigners, which I understand as they earn so much less, but why do the foreigner fees have to be so high?

Just to add - as Hans says, it is pretty impossible for a local or your driver to buy the admission tickets for you as they check your tickets several times in most places so would see that you only paid the local price.

hi all

thanks for the feedback

It seems to me that while SL is a wonderful place to holiday they are doing there best to put people off by charging such extortionate fees for the various attractions

Come on SL wake up before people stop comming to your wonderful country!!
