Ahungalla or Bentota?

Hi

We are planning a trip to Sri Lanka next year and cant decide whether to stay at the Heritance in Ahungalla or the Taj Exotica in Bentota. Do either have any life outside the hotels? We will be staying B%26amp;B so ideally would like to be able to get to local restaurants etc and not be confined to the hotel. Any tips/advice would be welcome!

Heritance Ahungalla is definitely the better hotel of the two, but not much life outside the hotel.

Bentota has life outside the hotel with quite a few restaurants and bars.

Yes, definately Heritance Ahungalla is the better hotel, and by a LONG way too, having been to both i can vouch for that !

As Hans said, not much in way of life in the local village there at Ahungalla, and restaurants and bars would be around 20 minutes away by car, although local places of interest to visit are around the same distance away as the Taj.

My favourite hotel in all of Sri Lanka as most people on here know is indeed Heritance Ahungalla, and will be winging my way down there again from 28th of this month, and will be there for 5 weeks or so, after a visit to thier sister hotel in Dambulla (Heritance Kandalama) and cannot wait !

Hi,Bentota has the best beaches by far.The beach at Ahungalla has dangerous under currents and riptides.Nightlife at both these resorts is limited.Although Heretence is a better hotel Taj is not bad.I would prefer Taj mainly for its beach and location.All the best Allen B.

Absoloute rubbish about Ahungalla beach being dangerous of course, it is no more dangerous than any other beach in Sri Lanka at the wrong time of year, and to add beach at Ahungalla is much nicer too.

Right now beach at Ahungalla is really very good, and NOT dangerous at all, the hotel there has lifeguards, like most in Sri Lanka that will advise of any spots not to swim in.
