Timeframe for tours from Negombo

Hi Everyone

We will be staying the Jetwing Beach from 1st April to he 14th April and were hoping to do a couple of tours to see some of the highlights of Sri Lanka.

Ideally, we don%26#39;t really want to be away from the hotel for too many nights as we%26#39;ve already paid and are on a tight budget. I%26#39;ve been quoted just over 拢200 each for 2 day 1 nights tours to the cultural triangle and then down to Yala - does this sound reasonable?

Any recommendations for tour timescales and best places to visit would be much appreciated please...definately want to visit the cultural triangle, Millenium Elephant Foundation and Yala if possible.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks

Zoe

Hi Zoe,

You want to do too much in too short time.

Cultural Triangle (Sigiriya?) to Yala is 360 km = 9+ hours drive. Yala back to Negombo is another 340 km = 9 hours because you have to pass through Colombo.

Where do you intend to spend the night? In the car?

MEP, Cultural Triangle, Kandy?, Hill Country? and Yala is minimum 1000 km = 25 hours driving and requires minimum 4 days.

GBP 400 is about LKR 64000. Transport for 1000 km will cost LKR 35000-40000. Without knowing your standard of hotel and exactly which entrance fees are included it%26#39;s difficult to tell whether the price is reasonable.

Thanks for getting back to me Hans.

We really don%26#39;t know a huge amount about the time spent travelling between the various places so am a bit clueless on this! :-)

I%26#39;ve been quotes 拢208 for a 2 day 1 night trip to the cultural triangle including starred (don%26#39;t know what level) accommodation and entrance to attractions. Then 拢208 again to travel from Negombo down to Yala and the Turtle Hatchery on a seperate 2 day 1 night tour. This is with Erickson - still waiting for Lucky to come back to me as he is currently on tour.

Ideally, we didn%26#39;t want to do for example a 7 day tour as we can%26#39;t afford the extra accommodation for this.

Was really looking for ideas to do a couple of 2 day 1 night tours and an idea of what we can expect for prices. I notice on the map that there are other nationial parks - are they worth a visit instead of Yala and maybe a bit closer??

Thanks again

Zoe

Is GBP 208 for the 2 of you or per person?

You could visit Minneriya National Park in the Cultural Triangle. Lots of wild elephants, but no leopards.

Have you consulted your travel insurance about visiting Yala? Due to UK FCO travel warnings they might not cover even for minor, non-terrorist related incidents.
