we will be based in negombo but visiting places like kandy are there any good markets where can buy gifts from,and what sort of prices should i expect to pay for things

... not the first price you are given, that%26#39;s for sure! Kandy is great for shopping, whether you buy from one of the many shops, or from market stalls. Prices are fixed in, say, book shops, but if you buy from a stall, haggle on the price, making sure you keep it good-natured and fair. Jewellery is another thing that needs to be negotiated. When we bought a ring recently, our Sri Lankan friend went in afterwards and said he had brought us to the shop and wanted his commission for doing so ... they readily handed over a sizeable cash sum which had, no doubt, been added to the cost of the items we had purchased. Haha... But just enjoy the experience. We did.

Kandy is also good for shopping. but Negombo or Colombo is bettert than Kandy. all the goods are cheap than kandy. No need to pay the full amount and accuratly. but u can settle it for a lower price.
