travel in emerald bay district/area ?

We are thinking of booking at the Emerald Bay, but are wondering how remote from other towns it is. As travellers, [rather than holidaymakers] we do like to explore the what the country has to offer, but don%26#39;t appreciate huge long journeys. Any near%26#39;ish%26#39; sights or heritage stuff to see please ?? Maybe an overnight stop somewhere ?? any train/busses nearby ?

Much appreciate any info. Regards, Maxine75

travel in emerald bay district/area ?

Hi Maxine,

Emerald Bay is located on a peaceful and isolated beach near Induruwa.

The nearest towns are Bentota/Aluthgama about 8 km to the north and Ambalangoda about 17 km to the south.

There are just a few restaurants/bars in other hotels/guesthouses outside the hotel within walking distance. There is a good choice of eating places in Bentota - 10-15 minutes tuk tuk ride away.

Nice excursions are a boat trip on either Bentota river or Madu river at Balapitiya (12-13 km to the south).

The closest %26#39;heritage stuff%26#39; is Galle Fort (40 km to the south. The %26#39;real%26#39; heritage is in the Cultural Triangle and Kandy, but like other resorts on the west coast it requires overnight stays.

Only slow trains stop at Induruwa station, but there are plenty of buses plying up and down Galle Road just outside the hotel.
