Club Palm Bay, Maralwila

We have just booked this hotel for 2 weeks in June. I was wondering if anyone could let me know what the rooms are like and what facilities the rooms have? Are any of the rooms better than others? Also, what is the entertainment like in the hotel? We are not party animals but enjoy some low key, good entertainment. This is our first time to Sri Lanka and we are both really looking forward to it. Any comments would be helpful.

Hi Linda

I stayed at the CPB with my wife and then 6 year old back in June a couple of years ago.

Firsly let me say you will have a lovely relaxing time.

The CPB sits around a large lagoon may of the cabins back onto it so its worth asking for one of these. If you like you can do a bit of fishing or just keep an eye out for the wild life (Look out for the water lizard.

The rooms are claen but a bit basic by European standards althogh ther is a TV and you can ask for a hairdryer from one of the very helpful staff. Its worth getting your laundry done as its so cheap and comes back nicely ironed.

The Pool is Huge

The Food is what you would normally expect from a All inclusive, If you ask they will cook up something for you if you need it.

There is entertainment in the evenings. This is of the usual hotel variety type, generall entertaining.

The Beach is not vey good so its probably not worth planning too much time there.

For you excusions speak to Samudu (Slimline Travel)

See other reports. He is a really nice guy and will help you out even arranging a sim card for cheap calls back to the UK.

Pay a visit to the local school and take them some pens and paper they really appreciate it.

You can get the pens and paper from the hotel shop.

The CPB is a bit dated but the staff all do their upmost to make your stay as nice as possible.

So Relax take a few trips and a couple of massages and enjoy yourselves.

Thanks Dave - it sounds ideal. Another question - I have read that the hotel is fairly near a fishing village. Do you know if there are any little bars or restaurants in the village? - just for a change now and again. We were told that if we wanted nightlife, then we should go to Negombo, but we don%26#39;t actually want a lot of nightlife - it%26#39;s just that sometimes its nice to have a change of scenery and just even one bar outside of the hotel would do. Sorry for all the questions, and thanks again for your response - I%26#39;m going to e-mail the hotel nearer the time and ask for one of the cabins on the lagoon.

There really isn%26#39;t a lot to do outside of the hotel but you can get Samudu to arrange a Tuk Tuk into the village or drive you to Negombo. Beware the roads are quite trecherous and what looks like a short jorney can take a bit of time.

I would suggest a 2 or 3 day trip away from the hotel during your stay Samudu again will give you some recommendations and arrange for overnight stays at hotels in Kandy or Hunana Falls(I think thats what it was called.

Dont forgt to visit ';titch the Taylor';outside hotel on right.

When we went we paid for trips in stirling, but with the excange rate now it might be worth posting to see if Dollers are preferable.

Dave

Thanks again Dave. We will definitely arrange some trips. We meant to go in a tuk tuk in Goa, but never got round to it, so a tuk tuk into the village sounds great. Really looking forward to it now.
