Hi Meera,

You can do the things you mention as a day trip from Negombo, but it will be a very long day. You will have to leave Negombo before 7am to be at the Elephant Orphanage for the morning bottle feeding at 9.15am, and if you want to watch The evening Pooja at the Temple of Tooth you will be back in Negombo after 10pm. An overnight stay in Kandy is recommended and will make your tour more relaxed.

For a day trip transport should cost around LKR 8000 (GBP 50) and for a two day trip LKR 1000-2000 more.

Entrance to Elephant Orphanage is LKR 1250/pp and to Temple of Tooth LKR 500/pp + LKR 150 for camera/LKR 300 for video.

In Negombo shops might be closed on Good Friday as it is a Christian dominated area. In most of Sri Lanka shops will be closed on 9 April for Poya Day and from 13 April for about a week for Sinhala/Tamil New Year. Banks will be closed 9-14 April.

HI !

1)You can do the Elephant Orphanage, Tea Factory and Temple of the Tooth as one day Trip.

Cost for good driver and good car would be only 83 US Dollars / 59 GB Pounds for the trip.

2) If you want to do some shopping for souvenirs, you can do it on the same trip in Kandy where there are good and many souvenir shops.

3) If you want to shop in Colombo, most of the Big shops like Odel, Paradise Road, and Lakmedura should be open.

4) Most of the small time groceries and other shops will be closed, but not all. The Supermarkets should be open.

5) You can also do a day trip or a two day one night trip to Sigiriya, it is worth visiting and is a world heritage site.

Cost for a car to get there and back would be just 139 US Dollars / 99 GB Pounds for a two day one night trip and you could visit Polonnaruwa, Minneriya National Park, and Dambulla too.

If it is just to visit Sigiriya and Dambulla day trip or two day one night trip, the car would cost only 99 US Dollars / 69 GBPounds.

Send me a PM if you want to hire a good car and Good Driver.
