Exchanging money

Staying at the Beach Hotel mid April, What is the best currency to exchange US Dollars or U.K. sterling, travellers cheques or cash.Change at Bank or Hotel, I would appreciate any advice

Exchanging money

Hi there,

a) Sterling in your case.

b) Cash gets a slightly better rate than TC, at least 2 weeks ago at the airport banks. But earlier this was other way round so no big difference anyhow.

c) Always do at bank as their rate is 5-10% better than what hotel offers. Better combine with other trips though, otherwise the tuktuk fares kill the gain in exchange rate...

Have fun,

Exchanging money

hi,

I agree with most of what erik says, but to change your cash you are better off changeing at authorised money changers in Negombo town. There exchange rates are better than the banks.

The ones I use are pushpa jewellers or monte carlo which are both on green street, or the phone shop next to the bridge over the canal, which is opposite jewel lanka.

Hope this helps

Hi

If you like to exchange money from the Hotels or Jewerelly Shops, you can change, but you dont get the real price. there are many money exchangers in the negombo town. you can exchange from there.

you can bring either USD or UK sterling.

Shehan
