Airport taxis

Dear all

Please advise me on the cost of a taxi from the airport to Negombo.

Last time I arrived I was exhausted and was scooped up by a travel agent and the car cost more than it should.

Where abouts in the arrivals area do I locate a real taxi desk (rather than all the travel agents with cars)? And do you pay the desk or do you pay the driver etc?

Hi there,

1) The real desk is close to the bank counters, on the west wall of the building (next to Tourist Board desk). Only indicated in Singhalese. They fix the price and send a runner with you to the cab, upon arrival you pay the driver.

2) Price will depend a bit on where in Negombo. I%26#39;d guess between Rs 800 and 1200.

(If the sign is only in Sinhala, how will I know I have located it...?!)

Just next to the Tourist Board desk. Or ask around for the %26#39;official taxi desk%26#39;, it%26#39;s the only desk in that area (opposite the waiting area with all shouting private drivers...).

When you come out from the Airport, you will find many Travel Counters. Many people will ask wether you want a taxi. But they will ask for big prices, but the best price is 1000 - 1200 LKR. You can get more less than that when you go out side the Airport. But you cant trust them.
