Please help asap - Relatives on Plane to colombo during atta

Hi there

My partner%26#39;s mum and her aunt were en route to Sri Lanka for 3 weeks - they left this morning UK time on the 10.20am flight with Sri Lankan Airlines.

It was due to arrive in Colombo at 02.25am local time but according to this

news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/south_asia/7902392.stm

it appears that the flight may never have landed although it is hard to tell

do you think they will have been diverted and i%26#39;m guessing there should be no need to worry?

A little confused here, there is only one flight with Sri Lankan Airliens today from UK, and that has not left Heathrow yet, maybe another airline?

I just checked the arrivals website in Colombo, and it does not show any flights diverted, so i would think that all scheduled flights have in fact landed there.

Thers was NOT an attack on the airport itself, a LTTE plane was shotdown close to the airforce base next door, so i think no apparent need for you to b worrying, i know it is easy for me to say that, but i really do believe that this is true.

Colombo city where other attack, and where the other LTTE aircraft was shot down, is in fact no where near to the international airport.

many thanks for such a quick reply dave - a few minutes after i put this up we got a txt from them

they had indeed landed before the attacks safely and since they were going straight on to kandy they in fact arrived there safely and werent even in colombo during the attacks thank god!

apologies if my first post was a little panicked it%26#39;s just the first time in a long while i%26#39;ve seen anything bad happen in colombo and it happened to be on the day they were arriving!

No problem, glad to hear that they are safe and sound, this will come as MAJOR embarrassment to the Sri Lankan government who had for sometime boasted that they had eradicated the LTTE air threat !

Counting chickens before eggs have hatched i think !
