We are flying into Colombo on the 2nd March at 10.30am - is it possible to get to Kandy the same day, and if so how and does anyone have any recomendations on where to stay - big thank you to anyone who replice :)

Sure it%26#39;s possible.
Airport taxi is the easiest and fastest way. It takes about 2.5-3 hours and cost around LKR 7000-8000. There is a taxi counter inside the airport just after the bank counters as you exit customs.
By train you have to go via Colombo city and this will also require a short taxi ride to the nearest trains station from the airport.
By bus you first have to take the free shuttle bus to Katunayake bus stand from where there are direct buses to Kandy, but that is a lot slower, also due to waiting at the bus stand.
