Hi there,

1) Do you REALLY need Yala and not Minneriya or Kaudulla, which are only 4 hours drive from Negombo as opposed to 8-9 for Yala? Also these are fully open whilst Yala has a negative FCO advice leading to your travel insurance (probably) not covering the trip at all.

2) Yala has the broadest wildlife variety in Lanka but not %26#39;much%26#39; of each kind, e.g. smaller herds of jumbos than Minneriya.

3) Trip alone would be 550 km which means around Rs 20,000. Add hotel to it.

All the best,

Hi Richard,

Yala is specialized for seeing leopards and Minneriya and Kaudulla is famous for big herds of elephants. So Yala cannot be compared with Minneriya because if you want to see a leopard the choice is Yala. As erik mentioned its against uk safety areas. The choice is yours.

Hi Richard

Yala is the best National Park in Sri Lanka. You can see many kinds of animals and birds including Lepods. There are some days where there is big heards of elephants but some days less. But Udavalave, Minneriya, Kaudulla, ECO Park Habarana has a big amount of Elephants. You cant do a Yala tour in one day. you have to take a onw night out.

Shehan...

Really NOT a good idea to be advising a trip to Yala when the UK FCO is advising that UK visitors should NOT go there.

If anything should happen, even a simple accident or illness then travel insurance is NOT valid.....

Just a thought !

Dave
