i%26#39;ll be in galle, jetwing lighthouse next week. can anyone recommend the best way to visit mirissa, hikkaduwa and other places around?

taxi or bus? reception desk or freelances?

Hi Marko,

There are frequent buses plying Galle Road just outside the hotel.

For Mirissa take a bus that%26#39;s going past Galle, e.g Matara, Tangalle, Hambantota or Kataragama. For Hikkaduwa any bus going north will do. Buses are often packed to capacity, but extremely cheap. Both Mirissa and Hikkaduwa can be done for less than LKR 30.

Other option is by tuk tuk, which can take max 3 passengers. The metered tuk tuks in Colombo charge LKR 50 for the first kilometre, and LKR 32 for every kilometre after that. Hikkaduwa is about 15 kilometre and Mirissa about 40 km from Lighthouse. Be prepared to bargain.

Taxi for the day to Mirissa should be around LKR 2000-2500 and to Hikkaduwa about LKR 1000-1200.

Freelancers are usually cheaper than reception desk.

Cant beat the A/C busses cost a bit more than normal busses but confortable, Also fast.
